#025 - TV App
June is Pride Month. 🏳️🌈
I believe that love is love. Everyone is at a different point in their journeys. Some have been out for years while others are still finding their way to share their truth with their loved ones. Keep that in mind and treat everyone with respect, not just during this month but all of the time.
Did you hear what I said? I’ll say it again for the people in the back: ALL 🗣OF 🗣THE 🗣TIME.🗣
With that said, Season 2 of Pose aired this week. *blasts air horns*
For those in the dark, Pose is a show that follows characters from the LGBTQ+ community and shows their struggles and triumphs not only in the ballroom scene, but also in their daily lives. Season 1 was set in 1987-1988. You see characters coming to terms with their friends and loved ones dying at the height of the AIDS epidemic and even realizing that they, themselves, have been diagnosed. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s such a good show. Season 2 picks up in 1990 and I AM READY FOR IT! The music, the representation, the casting, and the storylines are done so well.
So of course when I saw that I had to create the user interface for a TV app, Pose was at the forefront of my mind. The image of Indya Moore’s character Angel in those features always makes me smile because it’s bold, captivating, and just screams out, “LOOK AT ME! I OWN THE ROOM!”
I wanted the four thumbnails on the bottom to showcase recommended movies and documentaries about LGBTQ+ community, so I chose Studio 54, Paris is Burning, The Death & Life of Marsha P. Johnson, and Moonlight. I imagined this TV app having a Pride playlist of movies and documentaries for users to filter through, both ones that people have talked about in mainstream media and those that haven’t. Out of the four, I have seen two at the time of this writing (Paris is Burning and Moonlight). The other two are still on my Netflix list and I plan to watch both of them by the end of this month, not because it’s Pride Month, but because my list keeps growing like a weed. Haha.
I ended up changing or fine tuning a few things until I felt satisfied with the picture above. Yay for making some sort of progress with these challenges!
