#033 - Customize Product

I have decided to document my process by using a tool called Loom! It isn’t a new tool, but it’s fairly new to me even though I’ve had the desktop app on my laptop for a month or two. Many people film tutorials with screen recording tools and while I don’t have any plans to do that whatsoever, I did want to have a clearer way to show bits and pieces of putting these #notsodailyui projects together instead of just using screenshots.

Since that’s out of the way, I can say that I am very pleased with what I came up with for this one. Spring is here and I’m going through items that A) need to be replaced, B) are in good to excellent condition to donate once it’s safe to do so (stuff I wore less than three times or not at all), and C) just need to be thrown straight into the trash. My sneakers were both in categories A & C. People always say that Nike’s are comfortable so why not be a responsible adult and treat myself (and my feet) at once?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I didn’t get the shoe that’s featured here. I saw them on Nordstrom’s website, said, “Those are cool, but they’re not what I’m looking for,” and found the TR 9 shoes on Sport Chek’s website. Still comfy and exactly what I wanted. I didn’t think much about the Nike Air VaporMax Flyknit 3 again until I was scrolling through Twitter and saw that someone I follow tweeted a picture of her wearing them with these cropped, light washed blue jeans. They looked GOOD. Seriously. The shoefie (shoe + selfie) stuck with me.

That’s when I knew that I was using them for this project. I didn’t record the entire thing from start to finish, but I did a little ten-minute window of me lining elements up, changing colours of the CTAs, etc. Does anyone else go back and forth when deciding on colours? I wish I had started the recording when I was creating the radial gradients for the shoe colours, but I’ll keep it in mind for next time.

Overall, I’m pretty proud of myself for remembering how to remove a background in Photoshop after not doing that for years. And hey, this one turned out exactly how I wanted it to. Not too shabby. *pats self on back*

And last but not least, here’s the link to the Loom video if you want to see me flip back and forth between colours in Adobe XD.

Until next time, friends!
