#043 - Food & Drink Menu
Hi, my name is Tenisha, and I love to skip the line by ordering my coffee ahead of time.
It started four years ago when I was doing an internship in Toronto. I found the Ritual app, which shows you a list of restaurants around your current location and lets you order your morning coffee, breakfast, lunch, and snack ahead of time. You put the order through, pay, then head to the restaurant. There’s a designated pickup spot, so all you have to do is either find the item(s) with your name on it or tell someone behind the counter that you’re there to pick up your order. At the time, Toronto was using Ritual, the city I was living in sure wasn’t, and I hopped aboard the train because hey, I like to get in and out of places as quickly as I possibly can (especially in these times) and also there are some days where I’m not in a talkative mood. (Just being honest.)
It’s now 2020, though, so everyone with a coffee shop, restaurant, or retail store has some way for customers to order ahead and pickup. We’re going to see a lot of places offering that type of service now thanks to COVID-19, since people don’t want to spend as much time in public and indoor spaces as they did compared to this time last year. I, for one, think it will help in the long run, especially when it comes to holiday shopping.
(Side note: Are we even doing the holidays this year?)
People can just order their favourite person’s Christmas present online and have it shipped to a store close to them or order through a retailer’s app, see which location has the products they want in stock, and select a time to pick up at the store. But that takes work - a lot of work. Apps aren’t built overnight and all of that requires quite a bit of time, brainstorming, implementing, user testing, etc. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what comes about, right?
Anyways, I created a total of five screens for this, however the first two isometric mockups I chose would not upload - I tried multiple times…still couldn’t be processed - however it did work for this third option! I chose to go with some neutral shades minus the dark purple CTA button to encourage users to add the delicious cappuccino to their cart.
Stay safe out there, wash your hands, wear your masks, and please keep your distance from others. It’s absolutely wild how much we have to remind people of that now, but hey, here’s to brighter days ahead.
