#030 - Pricing

Life happened and it took me a while for me to complete this. I did the wireframes in December, dabbled a little bit in January, but put the finishing touches on it yesterday. Whew, the inconsistency of it all. I find that my issue is feeling like I have to spend a significant amount of time on creative work in a day and as we all know, sometimes it’s not possible. What I have done, though, is set a goal to at least work on one UI related project and coding for at least an hour, multiple times a week. It lessens the guilt I have about not doing it every day, even when I’m occupied with other life matters.

Another thing I’ve realized is that I won’t leave home if my alarm is not set. Believe me, it’s SO tempting to just sleep until 10 AM after coming home from work around 1 AM, and if that alarm isn’t set, that’s exactly what I will do. Things won’t get done and I’m one of those people who can’t concentrate at home. I have to get out of the house and go to the library or a coffee shop in order to focus.

Let’s move on to what really matters, shall we?

These screenshots are pretty self-explanatory but I was getting the cards set up for what needed to be done. I wanted three tiers, so think of your small, medium, and large prices for a service or product.

Placeholder text, for the win. At this point, the basic structure has been laid out and the next part is to going in and really make these pricing tiers come alive instead of just having bland Lorem Ipsum text. Don’t get me wrong, Lorem Ipsum gets the job done when needed, but I would rather make my own copy to make things more realistic instead of constantly relying on it.

Please don’t ask about this colour. I don’t know what I was thinking and I sure don’t know what I was going for. My condolences.

The good thing is that I started to replace some of the Lorem Ipsum text with the tier names, prices, and features.

This blush pink colour came from Pinterest. I keep telling people to not sleep on Pinterest because it’s full of resources and inspiration. Don’t believe me? I have a board only for colour palettes that I come across because I know that if I see it one day and don’t pin it, there’s a very good chance that I won’t find it again.

(NOTE: Funny how I typed that. I went to find the pin this colour was on, opened my home feed, and found the best colour palette with such a dark, rich blue, but I saw it after I had already clicked something else.)

But, for reference purposes, this is where you can find the pin, and the hex code is #DFBBB6.

Now if you haven’t guessed by the names of the pricing tiers, I’m grouping this with the other exercises that featured Satchel Stone, a fictional handbag and accessories company run by two sisters, Lauren and Malia. When it came to renting an item, I immediately thought of Rent The Runway. For those of you who aren’t in the know, Rent The Runway is exactly what it sounds like - a subscription fashion service where you can rent designer pieces for a fee. Subscription services are booming these days, from meal kits like Hello Fresh to curated book boxes, and beauty boxes like FabFitFun. I had previously touched on an email receipt for a subscription box for Curls & Coils, so why not Satchel Stone?

It’s time for the grand finale…

I wanted some texture in the background so I found this great picture on Pexels from Steve Johnson. I’m a fan of all the paint textures and colours he shows in his work, and this one was just what I needed.

Last but not least, here’s the style guide. I’m kind of hesitant to use that term, but hey, whatever.
