#042 - To-Do List

Ahhh, where would we be without to-do lists?

I started to use Asana late last year after struggling to keep track of everything I wanted and needed to do and it was such a huge improvement. You can make multiple lists, colour code them, add links, schedule dates and times for when tasks should be completed by, etc. Most of my boards are focused on creative work and I mainly use to it jot down ideas for upcoming projects or to document where I am during a project, but I do have a few that are for personal use only.

#041 - Workout Tracker

I made the decision to take some time off from posting on here and my creative account on Instagram. It originally was going to be for a week, but I knew I needed a break. It was overdue. Since the lockdown started and I was off of work, I forced myself to be “productive” by pushing content out. It worked for a while because it helped me be accountable and on somewhat of a schedule. I learned about a week into quarantine that I needed a form of routine in my life in order to have some sense of normalcy.

#040 - Recipe

This was fun. Maybe designing recipe apps is in my future. Or maybe it’s because I just love good pictures of food.

Who knows?

For today’s exercise, I designed an interface that gives the user ingredients and instructions on how to make avocado toast. Yes, I did choose this because of the whole “You millennials can’t afford to buy homes these days because you’re spending too much money on fancy avocado toast and coffee!” thing that has been floating around for a while now. Why not have a little fun with it, make the avo toast yourself, then save that $14+ for when restaurants open back up and you can celebrate with friends at brunch with bottomless mimosas?

#035 - Blog Post

I’m proud of myself for this one. Every time I look at the final image, I give myself a pat on the back, as corny as that sounds.

Today’s blog post designed was based on Satchel Stone, the fictional accessory company I made up ran by two sisters named Malia and Sasha. (Shout out to the Obama girls.) The blog post is from Malia’s perspective, and it turns out Satchel Stone has seen an increase in online orders over the last couple of months. It’s a nice surprise, which means that they are able to keep their small staff employed instead of having to lay anyone off.

#034 - Car Interface

I’m going to start this off by saying that some people are very talented and can design amazing car interfaces.

I, however, am not one of them.

Just looking through the various examples of what people have posted on Dribble and Pinterest made me realize that:

  1. I could make an interface that’s simple, straight to the point, and on time according to the posting schedule I have been working with for the last 3-ish months.

  2. Or I could overthink, complicate things, and become so frustrated that it causes me to fall behind.

#033 - Customize Product

I have decided to document my process by using a tool called Loom! It isn’t a new tool, but it’s fairly new to me even though I’ve had the desktop app on my laptop for a month or two. Many people film tutorials with screen recording tools and while I don’t have any plans to do that whatsoever, I did want to have a clearer way to show bits and pieces of putting these #notsodailyui projects together instead of just using screenshots.

#032 - Crowdfunding Campaign

I had two ideas right off the bat for this crowdfunding campaign. One idea was to raise money to donate to a food bank and the other involved raising money to give a school library new books. Real life events have inspired these ideas. Food banks are finding more and more people visiting them due to reduced income, being laid off completely, and now trying to adjust to these changes. It’s a lot for anyone to adjust to, including staff at these food banks who are doing their best to help others and protect their health at the same time.
